Parish of San Pascual Bailón
New Church or the Great
The current parish church of San Pascual Bailón, popularly known as “New Church” or “the Great”, began to be built during the 1960s.
The first stone was laid on August 15, 1966. Its architecture constitutes one of the most singular elements of the urban landscape of El Perelló, especially highlighting its characteristic shape, inspired by the traditional Valencian barraca.
The building constitutes an outstanding example of Valencian religious architecture of the second half of the 20th century, combining contemporary forms with references to the roots and traditions of our land.
One of its most recognizable elements are the numerous stained glass windows that surround the temple, allowing natural light to be an essential part of its interior space.
The church consists of a single and wide nave. In the presbytery, the image of Christ Crucified stands out, accompanied by the images of the Immaculate Conception and San Pascual Bailón, patron of the Parish.

Hermitage of San Pascual Bailón
Old Church
The ancient Hermitage of San Pascual Bailón, currently known as the “Old Church”, has its origins at the end of the 19th century.
Its construction arose from the need to spiritually attend to the numerous summer visitors who came to El Perelló and who, until then, had to travel to El Palmar to attend the celebration of the Holy Mass.
Among the main promoters of the construction was the Baron of Ruaya, who donated the necessary land to build the chapel. Thanks also to the contributions and donations of the faithful, its construction was able to be carried out.
In memory of the Baron of Ruaya, one of the bells of the temple received the name of “La Pascuala”.
The hermitage was solemnly blessed on August 11, 1898. El Perelló then experienced two intense days of celebrations and religious acts on the occasion of its inauguration.
For that occasion, the famous Maestro Serrano composed the music that accompanied the first Mass celebrated in the new temple.
Inside, the altar and the baseboard stand out, elements that are part of the historical and artistic heritage of the temple.
The hermitage is dedicated to San Pascual Bailón and has been declared Bien de Relevancia Local (BRL) (Asset of Local Relevance).
In August 2023, the parish community celebrated with great solemnity the 125th anniversary of the blessing of the hermitage, recalling more than a century of faith and Christian presence in El Perelló.

Hermitage of Our Lady of Carmen
Hermitage of Pouet
The Hermitage of Our Lady of Carmen was built during the 20th century and is located in the tourist area of Sueca beach, adjacent to El Perelló.
It belongs to the parish demarcation of San Pascual Bailón and was built by our Parish to pastorally attend to the numerous colony of summer visitors who, especially during the summer months, travel to this coastal area.
Over the years, the seasonal population of this area has increased considerably, making the presence of this place of worship especially important.
It is popularly known as “Hermitage of Pouet”, due to its location in the tourist area that receives the same name.
In the atrium of the hermitage we find a well, an element that recalls the name of this beach and that, at the same time, can symbolically evoke Christ as the source of living water.
Architecturally, the large windows located both on the sides and on the façade stand out, providing great luminosity to the interior of the temple.
The Hermitage of Pouet is, without a doubt, a privileged place for personal encounter with God and with brothers and sisters.

Hermitage of Mare de Déu del Recatí
The Hermitage of Mare de Déu del Recatí was also born thanks to the collaboration and generosity of the summer visitors of the area.
With their contributions, the land could be acquired and a small hermitage was built, currently dedicated to San Pascual Bailón.
Although the building has reduced dimensions, the available space is expanded by numerous outdoor seating areas located within the plot, allowing to accommodate a greater number of faithful during the celebrations.
The hermitage was inaugurated in the summer of 1985, being one of the most recent religious constructions in the area.

Hermitage of Mare de Déu de Les Palmeres
The Hermitage of Mare de Déu de Les Palmeres is also popularly known as the “Summer Chapel”, since it remains open for worship mainly during the summer months.
It was built at the end of the 20th century as an extension of the ancient Hermitage of Sant Róc, located in the same environment.
Its construction responded to the need to have a larger space to accommodate the numerous faithful who participate in the crowded liturgical celebrations during the summer season.

Hermitage of Sant Róc
The Hermitage of Sant Róc dates from the year 1925 and was built thanks to a benefactor family of the Parish.
Its purpose was to spiritually attend to the numerous faithful who already at that time spent the summer months in this maritime neighborhood of Sueca.
The avenue where the temple is located also receives the name of Sant Ròc, in memory of the deep devotion that the city of Sueca has traditionally professed to San Roque.
It was the first chapel built on these beaches. Over time, the increase in housing and inhabitants made it necessary to build a new place of worship capable of adequately accommodating the growing number of faithful.
Currently, the hermitage remains open for worship during the summer months and Easter Sundays.
Every August 16, the liturgical feast of San Roque is celebrated with special solemnity, a day marked by religious celebration, procession, music, and the traditional fireworks display.
Its purpose was to spiritually attend to the numerous faithful who already at that time spent the summer months in this maritime neighborhood of Sueca.
